My Story

Juanita Jackson's early life was spent on Monterey Park Tract in Ceres, CA.  She grew up to be a wise, elegant and respected lady in her community.  She was a member of Modesto Christian Center and enjoyed her ministry of giving to those in need.  In her later years, she loved sharing her wisdom with family and friends, reading mystery books and working in her yard.

Juanita was a hard worker and after dropping out of high school at 17, she returned to complete her High School diploma at Modesto Junior College.  She also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at California State University, Stanislaus and an Elementary Teaching Credential and Master of Psychology degree at UC, Santa Cruz.  Juanita retired from California State University, Stanislaus after a 25 year career as an administrator in EOP, Admissions and Records and Veterans Affairs.

Fondly known in the community as Granny, Juanita loved advocating for social justice and enjoyed speaking her mind about issues of importance to her.  You could regularly find her at City Council, Board of Supervisors and community meetings.  Ms. Jackson also operated Kuubba Extended Family Group Home for young men for many years and impacted the lives of those trusted to her care.  Ms. Jackson has been honored as Minority Woman of the Year and Stanislaus County Woman of the Year.

Juanita is survived by her daughters, Carole Collins and Claudia Epperson, grandchildren, La Mont Collins, Tanya Collins-King and Sean Collins all of Modesto, CA.  She also leaves to cherish her life eleven Great-grandchildren, ten Great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
